Project Blogs (revisited)
Last spring I wrote about using a blog to chronicle a class project involving rearing hatchery trout from egg to release in a mountain stream. This year, I’m doing the same project again with my Environmental Science students. With the help of the Rocky River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, we’ve acquired the equipment to raise and release hatchery trout. Trout Unlimited has developed a nice program (curriculum and equipment) to help teachers and students raise fish in the classroom, called Trout in the Classroom. Students can learn fish anatomy, physiology, embryonic development, life cycle, genetics, water quality testing, etc.. I use the blog to keep parents and partners informed of our progress. This year, I hope to have the kids do more of the writing. Please visit Trout @ PDS and check it out as the kids get excited to watch hits appear on our RevolverMap Globe! Have you considered having your students blog about long-term experiments or projects in YOUR science class? Do you have projects YOU want to share?
