We did touch on patent law in class, and the control issue. Patent law does seem "unfair" if no intent was there to steal.

I think the part I was most interested in in the reading was how seeds of genetically modified plants can blow into "unauthorized lands." Like James mentioned, when these seeds get transported either by wind or weather, they can cause legal issues when they start to grow in the wrong areas. That's not fair! If I was getting sued for growing crops that other farmers are unable to contain or control from spreading to my land then I would be mad too! But I have a question about that...GMO's are obviously beneficial when attempting to mass produce crops so I can see why they are necessary, but how do you contain them? If "stealing" these crops from the primary producer of the GMO (I think that was mentioned in the reading) is illegal, then how do you prove who is stealing and who is being blamed due to accidental transportation? I was wondering if you guys discussed this in class....if you did please let me know! I find it very interesting how farmers may be dealing with these legal issues...

James, after reading, the only point I questioned was:
Mass production allows Americans the luxury of “picking and choosing” from a large food variety.

Seems like if GMOs like Liberty Link (King Corn) Corn are successful, our variety of crops decreases. What did you mean?
