an example of protected species regulation
I assume we are not doing scribe post for this lecture so I’ll post this a post itself rather than a comment. When I was reading the handouts in class today, it reminded me of a case I read about online a while back about an illegal attempt to import Clipperton Angelfish under a false species ID. These fish are extremely rare and were reported to sell for upwards of $10,000 each in some cases. Its short to read and alludes to the ramification of breaking protected species laws and drops a few organization names we’ve learned about. http://reefbuilders.com/2009/05/20/clipperton-anglefish-holacanthus-limbaughi/
Good story. What makes this so bad is that they are endemic (only native to) one place. No other populations known in the world.

Their habitat is actually pretty cool in that they live in the interior of a circular island which cuts them off from the open ocean. http://www.privateislandsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/clipperton-atoll-1-300×190.jpg
